ILUSA to Get a Face LiftIndependent Living USAs Web site, independentliving-usa.com, one of the oldest disability portals on the Internet, is undergoing revisions. The new look will allow for increased content, advocacy alerts and more news items. A new template with more rapid navigational features will make different areas easier to access. The portal will unveil a newly designed database for Centers for Independent Living (CILs), those based in the United States as well as in foreign countries. In addition, the database will include State Independent Living Councils (SILCs) and state associations of CILs. The database will be user friendly, using Web forms allowing users to update information on their own on CILs or SILCs and associations. Among the new features of the form will be a field for a CILs initials or how it is referred to locally. For example, the Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley is referred allowing users to update information on their own on CILs or SILCs and associations. Among the new features of the form will be a field for a CILs initials or how it is referred to locally. For example, the Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley is referred to as ILCHV. The new input data form will have a field for inputting a centers initials or nickname, which will make it easier for visitors with limited keyboarding ability to search for any center in the database. The plan is for the same process to apply to SILCs and CIL associations. In addition, visitors will be able to search by the directors name, first or last, or by any other field. The data, however, is only as good as the information put in. Look for the announcement on http://www.ilusa.com . The face lift of ILUSA.com will also provide quicker access to content on many other sites. Using real simple syndication, we will provide key disability information to our viewers instead of them having to surf the Internet for it. Other features planned include interactive instruments and more opportunity for feedback. ILUSA.com is partially owned by ILCHV, which also owns this publication, Independence Today. Patricio Figueroa is the administrator for ILUSA.com and publisher of this newspaper. |
